At the Soup Kitchen,

…located at 617 Main Street in Middletown, we prepare and serve fresh, healthy meals every day to those in need.  We can use things like:

  • Fresh Produce: apples, bananas, oranges, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, or any other fresh fruits/veggies.

  • Dairy Products: butter, cream cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Large containers are preferred!

  • Plain Grits and Oatmeal (not instant)

  • “Family” or bulk sizes of ranch or Italian dressing, olive oil, and fresh garlic.

Donations can be dropped off any time between 7 AM and 2 PM. The kitchen door is accessed from the driveway on the right side of the building. Alternatively, there is a designated Drop-Off parking spot in the front of the building. Our staff will be happy to assist you if needed! 

The Amazing Grace Food Pantry:

  • If you buy groceries locally, bring them to 16 Stack Street in Middletown any Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Furniture / Mattresses / Toys / Clothing 

Great local resources for used furniture, mattresses, toys and clothing!

Re-Store in Cromwell accepts furniture, but not mattresses. To get more information on donating furniture, click HERE.

Goodwill Industries accepts clean, unbroken toys, kitchenware, and household items of all types. No mattresses or pillows though!.  Click HERE for a link to their donation information page.  Make sure to use an SVDM donation card, as we get clothing vouchers for all types of donations!

Clothing! 

Important Update!  SVDM is running a new clothing program Called Middletown’s Community Clothing Program (MCCP), in which people donate clothing and household items to Goodwill Industries with a special donation card.  Goodwill then gives us vouchers for free clothing that we distribute through local human service agencies.  Click HERE to learn more!

Leftovers and Prepared Foods? Yes!

If you have a large amount of commercially prepared leftovers, please bring them to the Soup Kitchen from 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday through Saturday.  We’ll see to it that your generosity isn’t wasted!  We also take fresh vegetables, meats and seasonings!

If your food is bagged, canned, bottled, jarred or boxed, crated or shrink wrapped, it is needed at the Amazing Grace Food Pantry.

Located at 16 Stack Street in Middletown, the food pantry accepts donations on Mon, Wed, Fri 9:30-3:30, Tues and Thurs -call to make appointment.

Welcome Home Baskets

are the finishing touch when we are successful in finding a permanent apartment home for a formerly homeless individual or family. Making them up is a fun family or community project.  They help to make someone who has been on the outside for a long time feel less anxious and more welcome.  For a complete list of Welcome Basket items, click here!

Please drop off your Welcome Basket(s) at Liberty Commons between 9 AM and 3:30 PM. Liberty Commons is located at 8 Liberty Street, directly around the corner from our Soup Kitchen at 617 Main Street.

Personal Hygiene Products

 are needed year round.  The homeless population has come to rely on us to help them manage their dignity while they work on finding a place to live that they can call home.  Donations are accepted on Mon, Wed, Fri 9:30-3:30, Tues and Thurs -call to make appointment, at the Amazing Grace Food Pantry, 16 Stack Street, Middletown, CT.
